Work Shed Refurbishment

Our customer had moved into a lovely 18th Century farmhouse and wanted to improve the look of their surroundings by either demolishing or making good a workshed on their property. This, as you can see from the original photographs, was in bad repair. After close inspection we found most of the main frame and trusses to be sound and proposed a total make-over, as opposed to a more expensive demolish and rebuild.

The weatherboarding had been bodged together with several different types of cladding, including sheets of plywood and corrugated metal sheets. All painted black to hide the different textures.

The roof had been covered in corrugated metal sheets in a “quick fix” fashion, to make it water proof and to hide the existing rotting plywood & felt roof.

And the left gable end was bowing outwards where the frame had rotted and moved considerably, making the whole building unsafe.

Our engineer supplied several of our typical computerised drawings, showing our customer what the end result could look like and they chose this design.

A Cedar Shingle roof, with softwood feather edge cladding, new Oak window frames, softwood double garage door & personnel door, plus an Oak log store & dustbin area to the right gable end.

The gable end frame was replaced and cladded, with the addition of the personnel door.

The roof trusses were made reinforced in strength and the roof was covered in Cedar Shingle, plus two Velux style windows were added for extra natural daylight.

Around the front of the building new Oak framed simple mullioned windows were constructed, with cladding and a double garage door.

At the right gable end an Oak log store and dustbin area was erected, using traditional joints in 175mms square timbers with knee braces. These stand on a dividing wall and Staddle Stone cut from local sandstone. Again the roof area here was covered in Cedar Shingles.
