Oak Frame Carport, Garage, Dog Washing Room with 8 Bays

This was a lovely project in West Yorkshire, an eight bay Oak structure with a dog washing room, six carport bays and an enclosed garage/store room.

I live here!

It’s always great to see how our customers vision is interpreted by Dean’s simple “Noddy” sketches, as he calls them, then they come to life through a CAD design drawing, then eventually into the final built design. We are specialists in the design of Oak frame garages and use our knowledge of structural requirements, along with the customers needs, to achieve the best results.

The original stone barn, that was being renovated, was located next to a large field on a steep gradient. Our customer decided to dig out a massive area that would allow a courtyard to be built, in which our Oak framed structure would sit.

Many tons of earth were excavated and moved onto other land. The wall of earth that was left had to be made structurally sound by the building of stone walls in gabion cages. Our customer wanted to use as much York stone as possible, to match the barn, therefore the dwarf brick walls and staddle stones were all cut from local York stone.

With the stonework in place the ‘L’ shaped Oak frame garage and carport was erected.

The rafters were fitted, then the pine tongue and groove boards were fixed to the top side of the rafters. This was chosen so that all the rafters could be seen from below.

Once the waterproof membrane and battens were fixed then the roof covering of Cedar Shingles were fitted.  The roof covering was finished, scaffolding removed, then the weatherboard was finished and joinery items fitted.

The Oak framed carport bays, with the lovely tongue and groove ceiling, are used for all sorts of storage, not just cars.

The building work on the barn and lovely stone setts on the drive were completed, giving a wonderful entrance to the courtyard and the finished eight bay Oak framed garage.

It was a real pleasure to be working on part of this fantastic barn conversion.
